08.10.2018 PGNiG Group to step up production and roll out gas network in Zielona Góra and Poznań regions

The increased gas output will benefit the CHP plants in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Zielona Góra, supplying heat and electricity to local households and businesses. With new investment projects under way, more residents of the Zielona Góra province will gain access to the gas distribution network.

By 2022, PGNiG plans to drill 38 new wells and expand its oil and gas production facilities in the Zielona Góra and Poznań regions. Its representatives spoke about investment projects implemented by the PGNiG Group in this part of Poland during the Clean Energy conference held in Skwierzyna to mark the 50th anniversary of the petroleum industry in the Polish Lowlands.

“Two-thirds of natural gas produced domestically comes from the Polish Lowlands. The region is virtually Poland’s only source of crude oil. Our investments to expand the Lubiatów oil and gas production facility and to develop the Różańsko field will significantly raise the facility’s output and capacity,” said Łukasz Kroplewski, PGNiG SA Vice President for Development. “This is our response to growing demand from the Gorzów CHP plant, which, alongside the CHP plant in Zielona Góra, is among the largest gas consumers in the region,” he added.

With more gas extracted in the region, the combined heat and power plants in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Zielona Góra will be able to increase their generation volumes, with the fuel gas contributing to improved air quality and significantly reduced emissions of particulate matter, sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. Moreover, the local governments will raise additional revenues from property tax and hydrocarbon production fees.

“The total number of oil and gas producing wells in the area covered by the operations of our Zielona Góra Branch is 427. Over the next four years we plan to drill 38 wells in the region, mostly within the Gorzów Wielkopolski-Międzychód and Sulęcin-Międzyrzecz licence areas,” said Krzysztof Potera, Head of the PGNiG SA Geology and Hydrocarbon Production Branch.

Over the next three to four years, a PGNiG subsidiary Polska Spółka Gazownictwa will modernise some 60 kilometres of the gas network in Zielona Góra. “By mid-year 2018, we completed the construction of a 5-kilometre gas pipeline in the area of Sucha Street in Zielona Góra, having installed 113 connections to residential buildings. Our another network rollout project in Nowa Sól will be completed as early as October. Once built, a new gas station and pipeline will enable connection of large customers operating in the Nowa Sól Economic Zone and rollout of the gas network into Nowe Żabno, Kiełcz and Ciepielów,” said Mariusz Korabiowski, Head of the Gorzów Wielkopolski Gas Distribution Branch. The completion of a gas station and pipeline in Wschowa, which is expected to simulate the local industrial zone and enable the network rollout into Szlichtyngowa and Sława, is scheduled for December 2019.
