12.10.2020 PGNiG tentatively interested in privatisation in Ukraine

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has entered into a non-disclosure agreement enabling the company to participate in the privatisation of the Ukrainian energy sector.

The non-disclosure agreement was signed by PGNiG and the State Property Fund of Ukraine in the presence of Polish President Andrzej Duda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In the agreement PGNiG agreed to keep confidential all sensitive information on Ukrainian state assets intended for privatisation that may be disclosed to the company.

‘PGNiG’s possible participation in the privatisation of the Ukrainian energy sector is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between our countries and to build energy security in this part of Europe. I am confident that with our experience and capabilities we could be a valuable partner for the Ukrainian side,’ said Jerzy Kwieciński, President of the PGNiG Management Board.

Mr Kwieciński stressed that PGNiG has been selling natural gas to Ukrainian customers for several years now. The company has exported over 3 bcm of gas to Ukraine since mid-2016. In the first half of 2020 alone, the volume of gas exports reached 0.9 bcm, reflecting a strong growth in sales. PGNiG also intends to increase its involvement in hydrocarbon production projects in Ukraine. The company plans to launch a natural gas exploration programme in Ukraine in the first half of 2021.

‘We have an ambition to drive the low-carbon transition in Poland. I believe that Ukraine will also follow this path, as it is bound to shape the future of the global economy. We can walk along this path together,’ emphasised PGNiG CEO.
